Entrances to the Government of Greenland
New entrances to the main entrance of the Government of Greenland
Client: Naalakkersuisut - Government of Greenland
Realized: 2025-2027
The entrances to the government are mounted on a mid-rise building, where water from the roof formed puddles and icy surfaces on the walkway. The mid-rise building was visually unclear in a faded orange color that created neither coherence nor contrast.
Later additions to the metal entrance roofs were small and deposits on the roof glass were unsightly and required constant maintenance. The roof window only provided light during daylight hours and the facade lights were of various types with directionless domes that dazzled. In addition, the overall visual identity was weak.
A requirement for the project was that Qarsoq had to reuse as much of the existing material as possible:
The middle building is now painted the same red as the administration building. The logo has been changed to a light box with the same background color and is now illuminated at all times. The glass roof has been replaced with a closed roof and LED panels provide lighting on the underside, so the amount of light can be controlled throughout the year. The roof has been properly drained away from the walkway area on both sides and the path has been raised completely clear of the terrain.
On the southern side a bicycle shed for staff and guests is planned, as well as two disabled parking spaces.
