Entrances to the Greenland Self-Government
New entrances to the main entrance of the Self-Government
Client: Naalakkersuisut - Greenland Self-Government
Realized: 2025-2026
The entrances to the self-government are mounted on a mid-rise building, where water from the roof formed puddles and icy surfaces on the walkway. The mid-rise building stood visually messy and unclear in a faded orange color that created neither coherence nor contrast.
Later additions to the shelter boxes were too small and deposits on the roof glass were unsightly and required maintenance. The roof window only provided light during daylight hours and the facade lights were of various types with directionless domes that dazzled. In addition, the overall visual identity was weak.
A requirement for the project was that we had to reuse as much of the existing material as possible:
The middle building is now painted the same red as the administration building.
The logo has been changed to a light box with the same background color and is now illuminated at all times. The glass roof has been replaced with a closed roof and LED panels provide lighting on the underside, so the amount of light can be controlled throughout the year. The roof has been properly drained away from the walkway area on both sides and the path has been raised completely clear of the terrain.
To the south, a bicycle shed for staff and guests is planned, as well as two disabled parking spaces.
