New KNR
Client: Greenland Self-Government
Project: New KNR
Location: Nuuk Greenland
General consultant: S&M Verkis ApS
Phase: Not realized.
The new KNR will house all facilities for Greenland's national radio and television production. The media house is a closed production facility on weekdays, but opens its doors for large events on special occasions.
The building is designed so that the 200 sq m centrally located Studio 1 can open up and incorporate the entire open foyer area for extra audience space, thereby doubling its capacity. The building resembles an external hard drive that broadcasts to all of Greenland.
All functional and technical requirements have been clarified through full user involvement in a series of meetings from 2014-2017. In addition to Studio 1, the ground floor contains TV production, garages, workshops, administration and the like. On the first floor are KNR's Radio and News editorial offices and several studios.
New KNR is being re-established at its previous location on Kissarneqqortunnguaq and, together with the other existing and planned functions, helps to define the area's new status within culture and sports.
