NUUK

Pukuffik Multihouse

Pukuffik Multi-House, Nuuk
Builder: Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq
Realization: Planned 2026-2028
Phase: Outline proposal

Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq is redeveloping the industrial hall B-3706 into a new Multihus, which will become a flexible gathering place for business, culture and leisure. Here are entrepreneurial offices, a kitchen and lounges that create a framework for networking and smaller events, while music facilities such as rehearsal rooms, recording booth and control room allow for professional sound production.

In addition, the house contains a stage for events, a multi-workshop for various craft disciplines, and a bright studio with sturdy floors and storage space. The overall architecture of the hall is preserved with a raw climate shield and the arrival area has a spacious foyer with plenty of space for all visitors, wide walkways and a lift so that people with reduced mobility can move freely.

The multi-workshop is a flexible space for many different activities, such as traditional and contemporary crafts. The space also functions as a social lounge with a café, which is also the house kitchen, the natural gathering point for events.
Artists can use the multi-workshop for concerts, performances and workshops. To create flexibility, the workshop tables can be easily rolled to the side when the space is transformed from a work area to an event or café zone, just as the municipality's mobile stage can be rolled out.

The layout creates strong visual connections between the functions. Entrepreneurial offices on the 1st floor have good workstations and fine sightlines to both the studio and multi-workshop. Unobstructed views down to the foyer and out towards the music rooms create a natural connection to the building's creative and social activities. The offices provide an inspiring environment where you will still feel part of the community in the building.

The studio is bright and flexible with four skylights that ensure ideal daylight for artistic work. The space has an atrium with visual contact to the multi-workshop on the ground floor – a feature that is repeated throughout the house and connects the functions of the house and provides the opportunity to follow activities and events. The interior design combines fixed elements with mobile workshop tables on wheels, so that the artists can shape their workspace as needed and free up space for the audience during events. Good storage facilities support daily use.

The control room is designed for professional sound production with a focus on optimal acoustics and quiet working. The room has direct visual contact with the studio where the music is recorded, which ensures good communication between technicians and musicians. There is plenty of space for audio equipment, mixing consoles and monitors, so that production can take place efficiently and comfortably. The layout supports both concentration and collaboration, and creates a framework for a professional sound experience. The recording booth is designed with a focus on optimal acoustics. There are sound panels on both the ceiling and walls. The room allows for high-quality music recordings, and has a riser for drum kits to ensure better sound control.
