The village of Oqaatsut is located 15 km northeast of Ilulissat and has approx. 41 inhabitants. The school has an average of 3-8 students and has so far been housed in the village chapel building. It is a new building in classical style, which meets the general design of the village and the local wishes.
The new school building is located on an open mountain area, which functions as a pedestrian connection between the settlement and the landing stage on the coast. The community center is located next door, creating a nice place to meet - and to play.
A large wooden deck welcomes you with seating and a roof over the main entrance. From the porch, the building has a wide, central hallway that can be equipped with play and gymnastics equipment and leads to classrooms, a craft room, a village library, a teacher's room and toilets. The external staircase leads to technical and storage rooms in a used attic.
The facade is classic red with white frames for windows and doors, and green doors. There is a wooden post foundation for the sake of buildability in the settlement.
